Opened back in 2005, 66,000 fans will pack into the stadium for the six matches that the stadium is due to host at this summer’s tournament. It is the venue of the tournament’s opening match between hosts Germany and Scotland. Had it not been for the presence of Berlin’s famous Olympic Stadium, the Munich Stadium would have been chosen to host the Euro 2024 final.

A traditional bowl shape in design, despite its size, the fans are situated close to the pitch, and a superb atmosphere can almost be guaranteed. No stranger to hosting big matches, the stadium was built in time to host six matches from the 2006 World Cup and hosted a further four games in Euro 2020.

The stadium has also become synonymous with famous Champions League nights. Bayern are used to competing deep into the event and the stadium was the host for the 2011 Final which saw Chelsea sneak past Bayern in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Another feature which has made the stadium so iconic is the outside. Covered entirely in LED lights, the stadium can light up in a host of different colours, which at the time was a world leading innovation that several other stadiums around the world have since gone on to replicate.

As it stands, Germany is due to play just one match in the stadium, but fans will hope that the team will return for either the Round of 16 knockout clash or semi-final encounter that the stadium will host.

A world-class arena that has seen several famous and memorable moments, this summer, the Munich Stadium is bound to create the perfect backdrop for many more to be produced.

Munich Stadium Stands

As a modern stadium, the Munich Stadium has a classic bowl-shaped design that consists of four stands.

Despite the host of legends that have graced the Munich Stadium pitch playing for Bayern Munich, surprisingly the stands in the stadium are simply named as the North, South, East and West Stands.

What makes the Allianz Arena a brilliant football arena is the symmetrical shape of its design. Each of the four stands contains three tiers, and all are equally sized.

The North and South stands are positioned behind each of the goals, and the East and West stands run alongside either side of the pitch.

For Euro 2024, UEFA has introduced three separate categories for all of its ticketing, with fans able to purchase tickets across Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3 pricing bands.

Category 1 tickets are the most expensive seats that are on offer for games at the Munich Stadium.

Positioned in the heart of the East and West Stands, Category 1 seats span all three tiers but remain in a central area. They cut off before the seats curve into the corners and are also cut off towards the top of the upper tier.

Due to the open design of the stadium, there are no seats within the Category 1 band that will offer a restricted view and due to being placed at the sides of the pitch, a fantastic view of the action should be guaranteed.

The next option is Category 2 tickets. Priced more cheaply than Category 1 options, Category 2 tickets are located all around the Munich Stadium. Positioned across every tier of the East and West Stands, the Category 2 seats are located in the corners and at the very top of the stands. Category 2 tickets are also available in the North and South Stands. Reserved for the middle tier, Category 2 tickets will be behind the areas reserved for exclusive ticket holders of each of the two playing nations, who have the lowest tiers exclusively reserved.

Category 3 tickets are the cheapest on offer, with Category 3 seats running across the upper tiers of the North and South Stands, there is also a small smattering of seats towards the upper half of the middle tier.

At some stadiums at Euro 2024, Category 3 tickets may offer a restricted view of the action, however at a stadium with the class and prestige of the Munich Stadium this won’t be a problem as every seat will offer a fantastic view of the pitch and the game.

Where is the best place to sit in the Munich Stadium for the atmosphere?

When Bayern Munich play their home games, the most passionate Bayern fans are often placed in the lower tiers behind either goal. Due to UEFA’s decision to place the fans of the two teams in the same spot for this summer’s tournament, it is likely that seats behind either goal in the North and South Stand will witness a superb atmosphere being produced.

Category 2 tickets will be located in the tier above where these fans will be gathered, so as well as being reasonably priced, a Category 2 ticket should make you really feel a part of the atmosphere.

Is safe standing available at the Munich Stadium?

One of the features when Bayern Munich play at home is the safe standing areas. With safe standing enabled, the stadium can host 75,000 fans. However, UEFA has restricted the use of any safe standing for this summer’s tournament, so every ticket holder in the ground will be seated.

Due to the work the stadium needs to undertake to ensure that every seat is fixed, the capacity for all six Euro 2024 matches that the stadium will host is reduced to 66,000.

What about VIP areas?

Due to its prestige as one of the best stadiums in the world, there is an abundance of VIP seats available for this summer’s tournament.

Located in the East and West Stands, VIP seats run through the centre of the tiers and align with the centre circle.

Those partaking in a VIP experience can choose to benefit from a host of world-class food and drinks in one of the three lounges, or if you fancy watching the game in even more privacy, you can book your own executive box.

Accessibility seats are located in the North Stand at the top of the lower tier. With a clear platform for viewing, the level 2 concourse which is located directly behind, offers all of the facilities and private areas that fans with accessibility needs will require.

It’s also important to stress that any accessible tickets for the entirety of Euro 2024 will be covered by the Category 3 pricing band.
