Massive Attack Tickets

Massive Attack are a trio from Bristol (later becoming only a duo) playing trip hop music (a sub-genre of electronic music which tends to experiment a lot, as well as using samples and thorough sound-engineering in both the instruments and vocals), first emerged in 1988. During their long career, the threesome produced 2 legendary albums: their debut - “Blue Lines”, out in 1991 and “Mezzanine” from 1998. Among their most well-known songs: “Unfinished Sympathy” from their first album, which took 1st place in the charts and got the 63th spot in the best songs of all time according to NME and the songs “Teardrop” and “100th widow” from Mezzanine, both charted well. The history of the group

The band first emerged as part of Bristol scene, which first acquired a stereo-system, which may seem like nothing special for us today, but was a very big deal at the time. The “Wild Bunch” was formed as a cultural group in Bristol and all band members were part of it, as well as part of the future collaborators. The members of the bunch were so intertwined, that at times there were claims that in some tracks the active members of the band, particularly Robert Del Naja, didn't actually created the tracks. The original band members were Robert "3D" Del Naja, Grant "Daddy G" Marshall and Andy "Mushroom" Vowles ("Mush"). The last was forced to leave the group in 1998, shortly after the release of the acclaimed and successful album “Mezzanine”. Among the participants of the musical parts during the years: vocalists Horace Andy and Shara Nelson and MC Tricky which made appearances both in the 90's and lately.

The music

Both of the famous albums by Massive Attack are included in the Rolling Stone's Magazine list of 500 of the greatest albums of all times. After inner conflicts, the trio remained only a duo a long line of feature appearances. During the long and tremulous path of Massive Attack the band released 5 albums; the last of them was “Heligoland” in 2010. Nowadays the group is releasing their new music through EP's and directly to Smartphone apps. In January 2016 the “Ritual Spirit” EP was released to the designated application called “Fantom”. In July of the same year 3 more songs were released alongside with 2 videos, on starred by Cate Blanchett.

Musical style

The most prominent features of Massive Attack music is the lack of choruses in their most known songs. The tracks are strongly defined by the atmospheric dynamic, created using various techniques, from distorted guitars, to orchestra bits and heavy bass-lines. Plus, there's heavy electronic processing of the vocals. The tempo is relatively slow for the dance genre. Many of the songs considered psychedelic and performed using advanced DJ techniques, including changing the pitch. All of these became the formulating traits of the trip-hop style.

Awards

Massive Attack won many awards during their career, including one Brit for best Dance Act, 2 MTV awards on the first ceremony held in 1995 and 2 Q awards. (hide)
