Exactly how easy it is to give your Premier League ticket to a friend depends on the club you support.

The name of the service changes, but passing a ticket to a friend within the club’s ticketing system is known as ticket forwarding or ticket transfer. This is of course distinct from the more anonymous ticket exchange, a service also offered by most clubs.

But why on earth are we talking about this topic now, at the start of 2026/27?

Well, following a two-year implementation period, the Premier League has now made digital ticketing mandatory across the league. [1]

Now, while that system may be standardised, the league leaves distribution up to the clubs, which means there is a massive variance in who can transfer tickets and who can receive these tickets.

In fact, we’re not exaggerating when we say that no two clubs do things the same way when it comes to sharing tickets. For the sake of simplicity we’ll call the process “transfer”, apart from when a specific club has another name for it. Yes, even the terminology is almost comically diverse.

Anyway, at the end we’ll calculate a top five that make it easiest to give your Premier League ticket to a friend.

Premier League Ticket Transfer Rules Compared

At the start of 2026/27, this is the state of play when it comes to sharing tickets through every Premier League club.

*Manchester United does allow forwarding to non-members; however, this is subject to an additional charge, as a non-member is not entitled to the discounted season ticket price. In practice, the club strongly encourages regular recipients to use its dedicated Forwarding Membership. [17]

Who Is Actually Allowed to Transfer a Ticket?

This is where the first big divides show up, because as we showed in the main table above, it’s mostly season ticket holders who can use this facility.

Most Clubs Reserve Ticket Transfer for Season Ticket Holders

In 2026/27, 14 of 20 Premier League teams restrict ticket forwarding to season ticket holders. [2–21]

These teams are Arsenal, Bournemouth, Villa, Brighton, Coventry, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle, Forest, Sunderland and Spurs.

Naturally, that means that at most Premier League clubs it won’t be possible for a regular member to pass on their ticket to a friend or family member if they can’t get to a match.

Five Clubs Go Further With Match Tickets

The outliers are Brentford, Chelsea, Ipswich, Leeds and Liverpool. [5][7][13][14][15]

The mechanisms vary from club to club, but at all five of the above clubs there is a legitimate route by which an ordinary member can pass their ticket onto somebody they know.

Hull City Are Really the Odd Team Out

In 2026/27, the Tigers do not offer a formal forwarding facility. [12]

Instead, Hull City have launched a ticket exchange, allowing members to relist tickets for any other supporter to buy, while receiving cashback, which varies depending on the seating zone. [12]

Do You Need a Membership to Receive a Transferred Premier League Ticket?

The Clubs That Put a Price on Receiving a Ticket

OK, so a family member or friend may tell you that you can have their seat for an upcoming match. Sounds great!

Maybe they’re extra generous and tell you that you can have it for free. Well, just because they’re not charging anything doesn’t mean it will come for free.

To explain, a few clubs require you to be a paid-up seasonal member of a Premier League club in order to receive a forwarded ticket. This is distinct from, say, a registered user on a club’s ticketing platform with client code.

Chelsea, Everton, Leeds, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest all require a recipient to have some form for paid membership. [7][10][14][17][19]

And inevitably, how much that membership costs will vary quite dramatically, as you can see here:

The Clubs With Conditional Rules

Not complicated enough?

Some clubs offer a forwarding facility that comes with conditional requirements. They all got there in different ways, but here’s a set of teams that can be neatly grouped together with “it depends” as the answer when someone asks if you need to pay to receive a forwarded ticket:

Brighton: Non-members permitted to receive, but have to pay an uplift. [6]

Palace: Normal season ticket sharing requires a member, but a holder can pay for ST+ and then share with non-members. [9]

Tottenham Hotspur: Each ST holder can nominate three non-members in their network. [21]

Brentford: Ordinary Category A/B forwarding will operate through free registered Friends & Family, but the very highest-demand A* games will bring membership and TAP (Ticket Access Points) requirements into play (attendance history). [5]

Friends & Family Networks Are a Hidden Hurdle

At many clubs, transferring a ticket to a friend or family member is not a drop-of-the-hat decision. Some Friends & Family lists are highly restrictive, allowing just a few names that are set in stone for the season once chosen. At other clubs the list needs to be decided within a certain window early in the season.

A minority, including Manchester City and Liverpool, are more flexible, allowing up to 18 names, although Liverpool’s list is locked after the 1st of September. [15][16]

Then there are way more rigid systems. Take Villa, who asks holders to nominate up to eight people at the start of the season, or Coventry, who have five fixed recipients who must already be in the holder's e-ticketing network before any forwarding can take place. [4][8]

We’ve mentioned that Spurs permit only three nominated non-members, and that nomination is not necessarily instantaneous. The club says it can take until noon the following day before that person can receive tickets. Then once all three have been chosen, they cannot be swapped during the season. [21]

So How Flexible Are Friends & Family Lists?

Assuming that your friend is already registered with the club and meets any membership or Friends & Family requirements, the transferring process tends to be fairly quick across the league.

At a lot of Premier League clubs, a season ticket holder can decide on the day of the match that they cannot make it and will still be able pass the seat on to someone they know with no trouble.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham allow eligible transfers right up to kick-off, while Newcastle closes forwarding one hour before the match and Leeds 90 minutes before. [14][15][17][18][21]

The bigger differences revolve around when each club makes the transfer facility available.

*This information was not explicitly stated by all 19 clubs that offer a ticket transfer service. In the cases in which there was no information, we defaulted to “No fixed deadline”.

So, if the question is “I can't go to the match this weekend, can I send my ticket to a friend?”, the answer is usually a “yes”.

Where supporters are more likely to run into problems is before that point as the recipient may need paid membership, an existing Friends & Family connection or, at some clubs, advance nomination.

Which Premier League Clubs Make It Easiest to Transfer Your Ticket to a Friend?

Arguably our biggest finding in this article it’s that some Premier League clubs make sharing a ticket considerably easier than others.

Taking the rules as a whole, these five clubs stand out for combining low barriers for the recipient with relatively flexible Friends & Family systems and straightforward digital transfer.

How We Chose our Easy Five

Instead of scoring clubs on dozens of individual terms and conditions, we kept it simple and considered the things that make the biggest practical difference when a supporter simply wants to give their ticket to somebody else:

That is, whether the recipient has to pay for membership, how easy it is to create and manage the required Friends & Family network, how late a ticket can be forwarded, and whether forwarding extends beyond season tickets.

Clubs that require the recipient to buy a full paid membership were excluded from consideration. We also favoured flexible systems where a new eligible recipient can be added during the season over fixed or heavily restricted nomination lists.

So let’s call our ranking a comparison of overall ease and flexibility, rather than any kind of judgment on which club has the “best” ticketing policy.

Methodology

This article is a snapshot of Premier League home-ticket transfer rules for the 2026/27 season, checked in September 2026.

The comparison focuses on official person-to-person ticket forwarding or transfer for general-admission supporters. Ticket exchanges, hospitality tickets and away-ticket transfer rules are treated separately unless they directly help explain a club’s home forwarding system.

Where possible, we used current first-party material from the Premier League, club ticketing pages, help centres, membership pages and terms and conditions.

Where a club did not publish every element of its process in one place, we cross-checked multiple current pages.

Coventry City’s new September 2026 forwarding scheme was also checked against contemporary reporting that reproduced the club’s newly published rules.

For Hull City, no person-to-person forwarding facility could be identified in the club’s 2026/27 ticketing communications, while the club instead introduced a Ticket Exchange; this was cross-checked against current reporting of the scheme.

Membership prices refer to the cheapest adult 2026/27 option that qualifies a supporter to receive a forwarded ticket, rather than concessionary rates. “No fixed deadline” means that we could not identify a universal published cut-off in the club material reviewed; individual fixtures or ticket types may still have their own deadlines.

The final top five is an editorial comparison rather than a formal points-based index. We considered recipient cost, Friends & Family flexibility, how late a ticket can be transferred and whether the facility extends beyond season tickets, as explained above.
