About Monaco

Monaco plays in the top tier of French football. The club was founded in 1918 and plays its home matches at the Stade Louis II.

The club's traditional colours are red and white, and they are a member of the European Club Association. Despite not being a French club, Monaco is one of the most successful clubs in French football.

Stadium Information

The Stade Louis II is a multipurpose stadium located in the Fontvieille district of Monaco, near the famous Port Hercule. It serves as the home stadium for Monaco, as well as the Monaco national football team and other sporting events.

The stadium was opened in 1985 and has a seating capacity of 16,000 spectators. It was named after Louis II, Prince of Monaco, who was an avid sportsman and played an important role in promoting sports in the principality.

The stadium always promises a great atmosphere, and is known for its distinctive nine arches at the away end of the ground. Due to Monaco's small size, Stade Louis II is the only football and athletics stadium in the country.

Honours and Trophies

The club has won eight league titles, five Coupe de France trophies, and one Coupe de la Ligue. Monaco is among one of the best teams in European football, and were runners-up in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1992 and the UEFA Champions League in 2004.

Team Information

Monaco have seen many great players over the years, who all made a huge impact during their time at the club. This includes Kylian Mbappé, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in the world. Mbappé played for Monaco from 2015 to 2017, scoring 27 goals in 60 appearances before moving to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee.

Another top player was French midfielder Youri Djorkaeff. Djorkaeff played for Monaco between 1990 and 1995, winning Ligue 1 and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League with the club.

Monaco’s top scorer is Delio Onnis, who played for the club from 1973 until 1980. Onnis won one league title and one Coupe de France with the club, and is viewed as an ASM icon by fans.

Rivalries

Monaco has a rivalry with fellow Ligue 1 team, OGC Nice, with whom they oppose in the Derby de la Côte d'Azur. The name comes from the fact that both Monaco and Nice are the only two major clubs in France that are located on or near the Côte d'Azur (known in English as the French Riviera). Games between the two clubs are always exciting to watch, and promise a special atmosphere when they take place.
