What does a practice session ticket involve?

A practice session for any Grand Prix usually starts on the Friday of the race weekend. Practice is where the teams test out different set ups and try to find the perfect solution for qualifying and the race itself.

There are two sessions on Friday, one taking place in the morning and the other in the afternoon. It’s important to note that there is no racing that takes place on this day.

What does a qualifying session ticket involve?

Qualifying generally takes place on the Saturday of a race weekend. Typically lasting two hours, qualifying takes place in the afternoon, and it is preceded by one final practice session, which takes place on Saturday morning.

Qualifying has three individual sessions. The first session involves every driver on the grid. This lasts for 18 minutes and sees 20 drivers reduced to 15.

The final fifteen then take part in the second qualifying session where the field is reduced to 10 drivers with the slowest five drivers being eliminated.

Ascari is the name of the area that encompasses Grandstands 12, 13, 16, 18 and 19. It is named after the Italian world champion who lost his life on the track in 1955. Parabolica is the final corner at the Monza Grand Prix and contains Grandstand 21. It has historically been one of the most dangerous corners, due to its close proximity to the finish and that drivers must take it at speed so as not to lose pace along the final straight. These days, the corner is much safer, and means that spectators have a view of the cars as they enter the exciting final stretch.

General admission areas are also available for spectators. These areas are a budget-friendly option for entry to the circuit and enable spectators to view the track from various different viewpoints. For these areas, spectators can stroll around the outside of the course to find the best vantage point to watch the racing take place.

How do I get to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza Grand Prix?

Due to its close proximity to Milan, for many attending the Monza Grand Prix, the easiest way will be to travel to Milan via flight or train and then travel directly to the circuit.

Monza is 23 km north of Milan. This distance can be covered in less than an hour by car, though slightly more if via public transport. It is worth noting that the travel time will take longer on race weekends so you should prepare your journey in advance.

By air, you can arrive at any of the three international airports located in Milan: Bergamo, Malpensa or Linate. From Milan, there are various train and bus routes that will travel directly to Monza, with buses from the Monza railway station to the circuit. Again, it is worth preparing for your journey in advance because this transport can be unpredictable in terms of availability on the day, given that the circuit will be extremely busy.
