About FC Cologne

FC Köln, or FC Cologne in English, is a German football club. It was formed 1948 as a merger of the two clubs Kölner Ballspiel-Club 1901 and SpVgg Sülz 07. Köln. The club plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of German football. Nicknamed The Billy Goats, FC Cologne's mascot is a male goat named Hennes (after veteran player, Hennes Weisweiler). The team's home colours have been white and red throughout its history.

Like many of Germany's football clubs, FC Cologne is part of a larger sports club. With over 100,000 members, it is the fourth-largest club in the country.

Stadium Information

FC Cologne play their home games at RheinEnergieStadion, formerly known as the Müngersdorfer Stadion or Müngersdorfer Stadium. The stadium has hosted the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2006 FIFA World Cup and 2020 UEFA Europa League. RheinEnergieStadion has a capacity of 50,000 for regular matches and 45,965 for international matches.

Honours and Trophies

FC Cologne have won the Bundesliga twice, in 1964 and 1978. They've won the DFB-Pokal four times, and the German Football Championship once in 1961-62. Regionally, they have won the Oberliga West five times and been runners-up three times.

Team Information

FC Cologne has a rich and illustrious history, producing lots of great players over the years. Noteworthy FC Cologne legends include Pierre Littbarski, Bernd Schuster, Wolfgang Overath, and Lukas Podolski.

The club's top scorer was striker, Hannes Löhr. Löhr played for the club from 1964 until 1978, and made a huge impact during his time on the team.

Another legend of the team was Harald 'Toni' Schumacher, who was regarded as one of the world's best goalkeepers in the 1980s. He won the European Championship with Germany and was runner-up in the FIFA World Cups in 1982 and 1986.

Rivalries

The main rivals of FC Cologne are Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen, and Fortuna Düsseldorf. All the clubs are from the same Rhine-Ruhr region.

The competition between Mönchengladbach and Cologne is widely considered the strongest of the rivalries. The rivalry sparked in 1964 when Cologne's manager switched his allegiance to Mönchengladbach. Games between the two are often filled with animosity and tension.
