About Hertha Berlin

Hertha BSC, or simply Hertha Berlin, is a German sports club based in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin. The club is nicknamed "Die Alte Dame" ("The Old Lady") and plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system.

Founded in 1892, Hertha was an inaugural member of the German Football Association in Leipzig in 1900. The team colours are blue and white.

Stadium Information

Hertha has played at the Olympiastadion since 1963. Since renovations in 2004, the stadium has a capacity of 74,475 seats and is the largest stadium in Germany for international football matches. The Olympiastadion has hosted matches in the FIFA World Cup, FIFA Women's World Cup, and the UEFA Champions League Final. The DF-Pokal final match is held each year at the venue. It is a UEFA category four stadium, and one of the most prestigious venues for entertainment and sporting events in the world.

In 2017, Hertha BSC announced its intentions to build a new stadium, to be ready in 2025 when their contract to play at the Olympiastadion runs out. One of the reasons for this decision was because they are the only club in the Bundesliga without a dedicated football stadium.

The address is Olympischer Platz 3, 14053 Berlin.

Team Information

Hertha Berlin is one of the most storied clubs in German football history. The team has produced some of the country's greatest players, including Gabor Kiraly, Niko Kovac, Axel Kruse, Hanne Sobek, and Arne Friedrich.

One of the top goalscorers for Hertha BSC was Erich Beer. The midfielder played for the club from 1971 until 1979 and made over 250 appearances during his time there.

Honours and Trophies

Hertha BSC won the German championship in 1930 and 1931. The club have won the 2. Bundesliga three times, the DFB League Cup twice, and the Berlin championship 18 times. They also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in 1978-1979.

Rivalries

An intense rivalry developed between Tennis Borussia Berlin and Hertha BSC in the 1950s. A proposition for a merger between the two clubs was rejected in 1958.

Hertha BSC play against 1 FC Union Berlin in the Berlin Derby. However, despite 1. FC Union Berlin and Hertha BSC making up the two biggest clubs in Berlin, their rivalry is less intense than that of other club rivalries.
