About VfB Stuttgart

VfB Stuttgart is a professional football club based in Stuttgart, Germany. The club was founded in 1893, making them one of the oldest teams in the country. VfB began playing in the Bundesliga, the top tier of German football, in 1963. Nicknamed ‘Die Roten’, the club’s signature colours are red and white. 

VfB is the largest sports club in Baden-Württemberg, and the eighth-largest football club in Germany. It also has departments for field hockey, fistball, table tennis, track and field, and football referees (all of which compete only at amateur level).

The home ground of VfB Stuttgart is the Mercedes-Benz Arena (which was called Neckarstadion before 1993, and Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion from 1993 until 2008). The Mercedes-Benz Arena has a capacity of around 60,441 for league matches and 54,906 for international matches.

Honours and Trophies

VfB Stuttgart has won the national championship five times (most recently in 2006-07), the DFB-Pokal three times, and the UEFA Intertoto Cup a record number of three times. They were also runners-up of the UEFA Cup in 1988-89 and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1997-98.

The club's junior teams have won the national U19 championships a record ten times, and the U17 Bundesliga six times.

Team Information

The German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart has a long and storied history, dating back to its founding in 1893. The club has produced many legendary players over the years, including Fritz Walter, Karl-Heinz Forster, Mario Gomez, and Jürgen Klinsmann. 

Another legendary player for Stuttgart was Karl Allgöwer. The midfielder played for VfB Stuttgart from 1980 until 1991, making over 300 appearances and scoring 129 goals for the squad.

Rivalries

As one of the most prolific clubs in Germany, VfB Stuttgart have had their fair share of rivals over the years. VfB have had a long city rivalry with Stuttgarter Kickers, however the two teams haven't played each other in quite some time due to being in different divisions. Because of this, the Württemberg-Derby between VfB and Karlsruher SC has become increasingly more important. Matches between the two are often fierce and full of tension.

Alongside club rivalries, friendships in football also exist. VfB have a regional friendship with SSV Reutlingen 05 as well as with North Württemberg side, SpVgg Ludwigsburg.
