The first thing to say about getting to the Amex Stadium is the club offers free public transport from within a large radius of the ground.

This includes the entirety of the Brighton & Hove bus network and the 700 and N700 Coastliner bus for the stretch between Worthing and Brighton.

On the rail network the Free Travel Zone encompasses every station between:

• Seaford in the south-east
• Lewes in the east
• Haywards Heath in the north
• Shoreham-by-Sea in the west
• Brighton in the south, of course

Taking the Train to the Amex Stadium: The Most Direct Public Transport for Brighton Matches

The Amex Stadium is served by Falmer railway station, which is practically outside the North Stand.

This station is on Southern Trains’ East Coastway Line, with effortless connections to Brighton and Lewes, as well as less frequent services to and from Seaford, Eastbourne, Ore and Hastings.

Using Falmer Railway Station for Brighton Matches

Additional trains are available on matchday, so it’s no wonder that this is the most popular mode of transport for the Amex Stadium.

One small issue is that Falmer railway station is a relatively small local stop and this does create a bottleneck after full-time.

So to keep the platforms safe there will be staggered entry, and you may need to be patient if you’re one of the thousands of Seagulls fans making the most of the free train.

There is also a queue system at Brighton for the outgoing train before kick-off. One way to get around this is to depart especially early and make the most of Brighton & Hove Albion’s award-winning fanzone.

Brighton Railway Station: A Public Transport Hub for Matches at the Amex Stadium

As we’ve mentioned, the main transport hub for the city is Brighton Railway Station (BN1 3XP), in the city centre on the north side, about a ten-minute walk from the Royal Pavilion.

Brighton Station is served by:

• The Gatwick Express: To London Victoria via Gatwick Airport
• Thameslink: Connecting with Gatwick Airport, London Bridge, Luton and Bedford
• Southern: Trains west and east along the South Coast, including Portsmouth, Southampton and Chichester

Heading from the capital, typical journey times to Brighton Station are:

• 58 minutes from London Victoria
• 63 minutes from London Bridge

What Buses Go to the Amex Stadium?

The Amex Stadium benefits from being close to two university campuses, which means there are several bus routes serving the area from the centre of Brighton.

Even better, the Lewes Road (A270) between Falmer and Brighton has bus lanes in both directions, so even when traffic starts to build up before kick-off the bus should be able to zip through to the stadium.

Via the Brighton bus network the main route to American Express Stadium from the centre of Brighton is the 25, which runs between Portslade Station and Sussex House in Falmer, stopping along Village Way, right outside the ground.

If you get lucky with the traffic, the 25 will take about 20 minutes from Churchill Square Shopping Centre in Brighton.

• 23: Brighton Marina-University of Sussex (stopping at Knights Gate Road, 5 mins from the stadium)
• 28: Churchill Square-Eastbourne (Stopping on Falmer Hill on the north side of the ground)

Seagull Travel: Brighton & Hove Albion’s Coach Service for Fans in Sussex

The club partners with the private company to offer a coach service, making several pick-ups from locations outside of the Free Travel Zone.

Known as the Matchday Express Service, this is a comfortable and easy way to get to and from the Amex Stadium from locations in East Sussex and West Sussex. The 2024/25 price was £22.25 for a return.

Driving to the Amex Stadium: Benefits and Drawbacks

On the face of it the American Express Stadium is easy to get to by road. It’s right on the A27 to the north of Brighton, about three miles east of the junction with the A23

Now, all Premier League clubs claim that parking is limited outside of their stadiums. In the case of Brighton & Hove Albion, they aren’t lying.

There is only one small car park at the ground, while the club uses three other off-site car parks on matchdays.

Aside from that, the Amex Stadium is practically in the countryside, with no further parking spaces, and strict residents’ only schemes where there are spaces.

Parking at the Amex Stadium

Costing £18 per car, permits for Brighton & Hove Albion FC’s car parks go on sale up to ten weeks in advance, and will sell out at the drop of a hat.

There’s much more availability for people with Blue Badges who need accessible parking, and we’ll come to that in our list below:

• Car Park A (BN1 9BL):  Located on-site at the American Express Stadium, next to the East Stand
• Car Park B (BN1 9PW): Off the A27 by the University of Brighton Falmer campus at a spot known as The Bridge), this car park is about ten minutes on foot from the stadium
• Car Park C (BN1 9RB): Across the A27 from the stadium, this carp park is on the University of Sussex campus, about five minutes from the ground.
• Car Park 5: For fans who have reserved Blue Badge parking, this car park at the University of Sussex has a shuttle bus to the stadium.

Park & Ride for Brighton & Hove Albion Matchdays

One way the club avoids congestion around the stadium is with two park & ride schemes, located on the outskirts of the city and with hundreds of parking spaces.

Beginning 90 minutes before kick-off, you can catch a bus, which will drop you off at the coach park outside the stadium. There are accessible services for a variety of mobility needs.

From here all you have to do is catch a lift up to the concourse at the American Express Stadium.

Now, something to keep in mind is that there will be a queue system in place for the return buses after full-time. At most it should take about 40 minutes to return to your car.

So let’s look at your two Brighton park & ride options:

Brighton Stadium Park & Ride 1, Mill Road (BN1 8ZF)

Starting at the junction of the A27 and A23, the Mill Road park & ride offers 450 spaces along a backroad parallel to the A27.

You have to exit the A23 next to the BP petrol station, and after that there are signposts and stewards showing you where to go.

There are seven pick-up points along Mill Road labelled A to F, and A is fully accessible.

The ride to the stadium from Mill Road will take about 15 minutes.

Brighton Stadium Park & Ride 2, Brighton Racecourse (BN2 9XZ)

Closer to Brighton city centre, this site is at Brighton Racecourse, next to Brighton General Hospital.

Park & Ride 2 is on the north-east side of the city, easily reached via Elm Grove, which connects with The Level park in central Brighton.

Set in the racecourse’s enormous parking area, there are 700 spaces here on Brighton matchdays, and the bus will take about 20 minutes to get to the ground.

Catching a Taxi to the Amex Stadium

Step outside of Brighton railway station and there should be a cluster of cabs waiting on the covered forecourt fed by Queens Road.

Brighton & Hove City Council has imposed a maximum fare for Hackney Carriages. You pay:

• £3 for the first 176 yards or 54 seconds, or a combination of distance and time

And then:

• 30p for each subsequent 176 yards or 59 seconds, or a combination of the two

Given that it will take between 20 minutes and half an hour to reach Falmer Stadium on a busy match-day, you can expect to pay somewhere between £10 and £15 for a taxi on Brighton matchdays.

There are two drop-off points:

• An unofficial drop-off point outside the South Stand
• An official one at Car Park 5, across the A27 at the University of Sussex.

Cycling to The American Express Stadium: The Best Way to Get to Brighton Matches?

While Brighton’s stadium is on the outskirts of the city, it is highly convenient to get to by bike. There are cycle lanes along the major thoroughfares, and when you arrive you can use bike racks outside the North Stand and at the drop-off point next to Village Way.

We’ll look at the two main routes now:

Cycling to the Amex Stadium From the Centre of Brighton

The Lewes Road (A270), which winds up from The Level in the city, has an on-road bike lane. Now, this is a busy road, which might be daunting for some riders, but experienced cyclists will have no trouble navigating this route.

You should be able to make the journey in under 15 minutes.

Cycling to the Amex Stadium from Lewes

This 4-mile journey is easily done with two wheels as there’s a trail on a raised kerb along the A27, so you can ride without having to deal with the traffic.

Heading from the heart of the town you can take the Brighton Road (A277), which merges with the A27 on the western outskirts of Lewes.

All told, the ride from Lewes to the Amex should take between 20 and 25 minutes.

Walking to the Amex Stadium

Now, while the shared path between the Amex Stadium and Lewes is available for pedestrians, it’s a long and monotonous walk, and not really recommended.

Much more enjoyable is the shared path that snakes up beside Falmer Road (B2123) from the village of Woodingdean.

There’s a car park here at the end of Bexhill Road, and it’s a pleasant way to get to the Amex Stadium, with sweeping views of the South Downs National Park. It will take about an hour to walk the 2.5-mile path to Falmer Stadium.

How to Get to the Amex Stadium from Gatwick Airport (LGW)

The second busiest airport in the UK is about 25 miles north of the Amex Stadium. With connections all over the world, this puts Brighton & Hove Albion in an excellent location for future European adventures.

London Gatwick Airport has swift connections to Brighton and the Amex Stadium by road and rail:

• Driving, it will take about half an hour via the A23 and A27. As we covered earlier, the junction between these roads is also the site of the Mill Road Park & Ride.
• On the train you catch the Gatwick Express or Southern Service to Lewes, and then switch for the East Coastway Line for Falmer Railway Station.
