Why Are Manchester City Tickets So Cheap in 2026/27?

Written by Alex Bird

  • Man City's cheapest adult season ticket costs less than half Arsenal's, and is the lowest “cheapest” season ticket price of any club in the Big Six in 2026/27. [5][23]
  • Match tickets have fallen dramatically since 2024, with the cheapest adult ticket dropping from $57 to just $27. [7][9]
  • Fan protests preceded these changes, including the introduction of a scheme offering $13 tickets to local residents in 2026/27. [12][16]

In 2026/27, at a time when attending sport is ever more expensive, Manchester City have quietly become what appears to be a model club when it comes to ticket pricing.

After increases in 2024/25, Manchester City froze general admission season ticket prices for two consecutive seasons, while matchday tickets have since become cheaper. [4][5][8]

Added to that, before the 2026/27 scheme the club launched the Manchester City Local Resident Ticket Initiative, making an allocation of heavily discounted $13 tickets available through a ballot for people living in East Manchester wards. [16]

These changes have taken place against the backdrop of Manchester City's long-running financial rules case.

An independent commission concluded a 42-day hearing in December 2024, with findings against the club published in September 2026. Man City have appealed the decision, while the question of sanctions remains unresolved at the time of writing. [1][2]

We'll examine ticket price changes from 2023/24, the first full season following the Premier League's February 2023 decision to bring charges against Manchester City and refer the case to an independent commission. [1]

We’ll plot dates and events alongside each other, and draw comparisons with other Big Six teams. Seen together, it may provide useful context, with the proviso that this chronology and juxtaposition does not demonstrate any kind of causation.

How Manchester City Season Ticket Prices Have Changed Since 2023

We’re starting with 2023/24 as it’s the first full season after the Premier League Commission’s charges were referred in February 2023. [1]

Across the cheapest season ticket, most expensive season ticket and a representative basket of East Stand seats, what you see are increases from 2023/24 to 2024/25, followed by two consecutive seasons of freezes. [3][4][5]

Now is a good time to point out that, especially during a period of high inflation, holding a price flat for two consecutive seasons equates to a reduction in real terms.

Season Ticket Price Comparison by Season

While freezing season ticket prices in consecutive seasons leads to a de facto reduction, there have been actual reductions in the price of match tickets, as we’ll show next.

Manchester City Match Ticket Prices Have Fallen More Sharply

The cheapest adult general admission ticket has fallen quite sharply since 2023.

Adult General Admission Ticket Price Range by Season

In fact, if you want to take it back even further, it can be cheaper to watch a Manchester City match at the Etihad now than it was back in 2018/19, the year the Premier League’s investigation began. [10][1]

That season, Man City tickets were roughly priced between $40 and $77.

Yet, as the chart above shows, and as we’ll explain later in this article, the road to the current pricing has not been a straight one, with supporter discontent, a lot of input from fan groups and concessions from Man City’s hierarchy, including chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. [10][14]

The Ticket Price Timeline Alongside the Premier League Case

Man City's published adult match ticket price range grew narrower in 2024/25, before even more substantial reductions were announced for 2025/26.

During this time the charges were referred to the independent commission in February 2023 and the hearing concluded in 2024. [1]

Man City's pricing decisions have also coincided with growing pressure from supporter groups, culminating in protests during 2025 and negotiations with the club through its existing fan representation network, City Matters (founded in 2018). [11][12]

So here is the timeline of the case, juxtaposed with ticket pricing changes:

  • Feb 2023: Premier League brings charges and refers case to independent commission [1]
  • 2023/24: First full pricing season after charges
  • 2024/25: Adult match ticket pricing reduced ($58-$99 vs $57-$89)
  • September 2024: Independent commission hearing begins [1]
  • Dec 2024: Independent Commission hearing concludes after 42 days [1]
  • Early 2025: Supporter pressure over ticketing intensifies [12][13]
  • Apr 2025: 2025/26 season ticket and match ticket freeze announced [13]
  • May 2025: Khaldoon Al Mubarak states that he was “not OK” with how the ticketing issue had played out [14]
  • Jun 2025: Reduced match ticket bands published [8]
  • July 2026: Category D introduced and Local Resident Tickets launched [9][16]
  • May 2026: Pep Guardiola stand opened, increasing capacity from around 55,000 to about 61,000 [18]
  • 29 Sep 2026: Commission findings published [1]
  • 1 Oct 2026: City lodges appeal [2]

How Does Man City's Pricing Compare With the Rest of the Big Six?

In 2026/27, Manchester City have the cheapest general admission adult season ticket among the Big Six, as well as the lowest-priced match tickets. [5][19][20][21][22][23]

The difference is especially striking when you look at pricing for high-demand, Category A matches.

*These are adult season tickets covering 19 Premier League home matches-Arsenal’s 23-match ST is disregarded. Chelsea's $1,166 figure excludes a discounted $928 season ticket available in the designated East Lower North Family Centre. [21][22][23]

Lowest adult season ticket price, 2026/27

Man City's cheapest season ticket is now $293 cheaper than United's, $410 below Liverpool's and $733 below Arsenal's. Checking Premier League prices by club, the cheapest adult season ticket at the Etihad costs less than half the equivalent Arsenal season ticket. [5][19][20][23]

Comparing prices for the biggest matches

The $27 City ticket is impressive, but it applies to the cheapest fixture category. So it’s perhaps more illuminating to show that City have also undercut their rivals when the most expensive fixture bands are used.

Top Premier League Match Category Ticket Prices by Club

*Chelsea's $87 minimum excludes its $69 Family Centre and discounted restricted view seats. Tottenham's $94 minimum includes a Family Area price, and the cheapest price outside that lowest-priced family band is $102. [21][22]

Here, the disparity in pricing for the Manchester derby looks especially compelling. When Man City host Man United, the Category A adult prices are $53 to $80. For the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, the equivalent Category A prices are $82 to $134. [9][19]

A few findings from these comparisons

Especially up against local rivals, Man United, Man City are an obvious outlier for low-end pricing among the Big Six. At $563, the cheapest adult season ticket is substantially below even the next cheapest option, Man United's $856. [5][19]

As for match tickets, City's $27 minimum is eye-catching, but the $80 ceiling is arguably more striking, keeping pricing comparatively low even for the highest-demand fixtures. [9]

Why Did City's Ticket Pricing Change so Dramatically in 2025?

Although freezes began 18 months before, Man City’s rather stark change in ticketing policy in 2025 coincided with the kind of fan pressure that can be seen at many Premier League clubs when discontentment reaches a crescendo.

In February 2025, seven fan groups challenged the club’s pricing, which had steadily risen since Covid, as well as dwindling access to season tickets. [12]

Protests followed in April, with Pep Guardiola defending the fans’ right to speak their minds on pricing. [13]

On 9 April, City froze season tickets and match tickets for the upcoming season, with Khaldoon Al Mubarak acknowledging that he was “not OK” with the way the pricing dispute had played out, emphasising the need for more trust between fans and the club. [13][14]

That June, match tickets tumbled even further with adult general admission tickets brought down to $40 to $80. [8]

April 2026 brought another season ticket price freeze, as well as the new $27 match Category D. [15][9]

$13 Local Tickets Add Another Wrinkle in 2026/27

In the summer of 2026, Manchester City announced its most eye-catching ticketing move, launching the Local Resident Ticket Initiative, selling a limited number of heavily discounted home tickets to local fans. [16]

The scheme followed a November 2025 City Matters meeting, during which representatives raised concerns about a perception that the club prioritised international visitors over local supporters. Man City acknowledged the need to balance its global audience with its local identity. [17]

In the first few months of 2026 there was a series of discussions between City Matters and the club on affordability, and in July 2026, the club formally announced that between 100 and 500 cut-price tickets would be sold by ballot to local fans. [15][16][17]

There’s a precedent to this scheme at Liverpool, and the Local Resident Ticket Initiative was announced on the ten-year anniversary of Liverpool's own Local General Sale. [25]

Cheap Tickets and the Value of Goodwill

Manchester City's recent pricing decisions suggest that maximising ticket revenue has not necessarily been the club's overriding priority.

Man City's considerable financial resources may also give the club greater scope to absorb the cost of cheaper tickets than rivals more dependent on matchday revenue.

For match tickets, Man City's decision to cut the price of the cheapest Manchester derby seats by 43% represents a scale of reduction rarely seen in the Premier League era.

Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers made substantial cuts in the 2000s, but neither enjoyed City's financial standing among English football's elite at the time.

Naturally, affordable tickets generate a lot of goodwill, strengthen community ties and also help to preserve a genuine local identity in a competition where season ticket holders appear to be under increasing pressure.

For an Abu Dhabi-owned institution that has long faced accusations of sportswashing, the goodwill generated by affordable tickets may also have value beyond the immediate financial return. [24]

Of course, none of this diminishes the benefit to fans, or undermines the genuine efforts of groups like 1894 and fans working with City Matters who have campaigned for concessions and cheaper tickets. [12][14]

Methodology

All ticket price comparisons concern published face-value prices for adult general admission seats at men’s Premier League home fixtures.

Hospitality packages, resale-market prices and concession rates are excluded unless expressly discussed.

Member-price tables do not include the cost of paid membership or guarantee that a seat was available at the advertised minimum. Individual fixture categories, seat position, eligibility, and the proportion of seats offered at each price can differ between clubs.

The historical Manchester City match ticket ranges are published minimum–maximum price snapshots, not season-wide weighted averages, audited transaction prices or measurements of how many seats sold at each level.

The 2023/24 $58 to $99 figures derive from The Athletic’s contemporary survey, corroborated through an attributed reproduction; the 2024/25 $57 to $89 range comes from a contemporary third-party comparison.

For 2025/26 and 2026/27, club-published prices are available directly. The 2018/19 comparison is a separate contemporary survey and should not be treated as a like-for-like seat inventory.

The season ticket comparison uses 19 Premier League home matches per club. Arsenal’s 19-match option is used rather than the 23-match product that also includes European fixtures. Chelsea’s restricted Family Centre rate is separated from standard adult pricing.

The Manchester City East Stand basket is a representative set of comparable price bands selected for the article, rather than an attendance- or seat-capacity-weighted East Stand average; its exact components are part of the article author’s original calculation. Per-game season ticket prices are the stated season prices divided by 19, rounded to two decimal places.

The legal timeline draws on Premier League statements published in September and October 2026. The independent commission’s Core Decision and the subsequent appeal are distinct stages of an ongoing disciplinary process, with sanctions not yet resolved at the time of writing.

Ticket-pricing decisions are placed alongside this chronology to give context, not to suggest that the financial case caused any particular freeze or reduction.

Two timing qualifications in the retained text deserve attention when the article is later edited: Manchester City announced the prospect of a lower-priced midweek category in April 2026, but its final $27 Category D band was published in July; Liverpool first announced the local $12 scheme in February 2016 and detailed it on 5 July 2016, whereas City announced its local programme in July 2026.

The announcements were approximately ten years apart, not on the same calendar-day anniversary. These points are recorded here without changing the supplied article text.

The concluding observation concerning sportswashing is framed as an interpretation of reputational benefits, rather than a factual assertion of the ownership’s motive for lowering ticket prices. The Guardian opinion source is provided specifically as evidence that criticism and the sportswashing allegation have been publicly made.
