About RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig is a German football club based in Leipzig, Saxony. The club was founded in 2009 by the initiative of the energy drink company Red Bull GmbH, which purchased the playing rights of fifth-tier side SSV Markranstädt with the intent of advancing the new club to the top-flight Bundesliga within eight years. The club is nicknamed Die Roten Bullen (meaning 'The Red Bulls').

Fellow Leipzig teams, 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and BSG Chemie Leipzig, had played at the highest level of the East German football league system, but no team from Leipzig had played in the Bundesliga since 1994. The city was ready for top-level football, hence RB Leipzig was born.

Stadium Information

Leipzig play their home games at the Red Bull Arena. The stadium opened in 2004, and hosts music concerts alongside football. The arena has a capacity of 47,069 for league matches and 42,600 for international games. The stadium was one of the venues for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the only one located in the territory of former East Germany.

The address for the Red Bull Arena is Am Sportforum 3, 04105 Leipzig, Germany.

Honours and Trophies

In its debut season in 2009–10, RB Leipzig dominated its division, winning promotion to Regionalliga Nordost after finishing first in Sachsen. They finished the 2013-2014 3. Liga season as runners-up and were promoted to the 2. Bundesliga.

Leipzig are the first team since the introduction of the 3. Liga to win promotion after just one season. In 2016, Leipzig gained promotion to the top flight and got a place in the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League the following year.

The club won their first major title, the DFB-Pokal, in 2022.

RB Leipzig has produced some strong talent over the years. Notable players include Timo Werner, Peter Gulacsi, Willi Orban, and Emil Forsberg.

Arguably one of the best RB Leipzig players of all time is Dominik Kaiser. Kaiser started his football career in 2009 and joined Leipzig in 2012. The midfielder went on to play six seasons at the club before leaving in 2018.

Rivalries

Rivals for the team include 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and Dynamo Dresden. They also have a fierce rivalry with Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund. Although the teams are geographically far apart, tensions between the two are high, and matches are promised to be filled with drama.
