Ipswich Town Membership: Everything You Need to Know in 2024

A club on an upward trajectory, Ipswich Town reached the Premier League in 2024-25 after more than 20 years in the Championship and League One. The club’s spectacular rise has been matched with increased attendances and more members than ever. Even when Ipswich were in the third tier they regularly sold more than 20,000 tickets, which is well above the League One average.

One way to get closer to the club and jump the queue for match tickets is with an Ipswich Town Membership. In this article we’ll take a thorough look at ITFC Membership, from its various benefits to the club’s ticket sales policy.

No Membership Required

Ipswich Town Membership Tiers

Before the 2023-24 season the club had a slightly confusing variety of membership tiers, starting at “Ultimate” and working down to “Gold” and “Silver”. Each came with different benefits including guaranteed cup tickets for the highest level. Due to the huge demand for Ipswich tickets in 2022-23, these were all streamlined into one simple package, as we’ll explain below.

Ipswich Town Super Blues Membership

Priced at £40, this is now the only ITFC Membership for adults, aiming to offer a fair official sales process to all Ipswich Town fans. Here are the main benefits:

  • Priority access to ITFC home & away tickets
  • Five bonus away priority points*
  • £2 discount on home league match tickets
  • 25% off return coach travel to a single match
  • Access to special offers at the official club store
  • 20% discount on some club events
  • 10% discount on ITFC matchday hospitality
  • Free access to ITFC U21 games at Portman Road
  • Discounts on ITFC Women home matches
  • A place on the waiting list for an ITFC Season Ticket

*We’ll explain Away Priority Points later in this article.

Ipswich Town Junior Blues Membership

This Ipswich Town Membership tier is available for fans aged 5-16, and costs £27.50 a season (£22.50 for Ipswich ST holders). The benefits of this membership tier include:

  • Priority access to home and away tickets
  • A 50% discount on shirt printing at the club store
  • TeamCard points worth £5
  • Invitations to exclusive events with appearances from first-team players
  • A skills football, cape flag, water bottle and backpack for members aged 5-9
  • A wristband, phone stand, pen, members flag, water bottle and cross body bag for fans aged 10-16

In previous years, ITFC Junior Membership also offered 1 adult and 1 u19 ticket to a selected home league game. This benefit was discontinued when the club won promotion back to the Premier League.

Ipswich Town Foals Membership

To get the littlest Ipswich Town fans involved with the club, there’s an earlier tier for wee ones aged 0-4. ITFC Foals Membership is priced at £22.50, with a welcome pack featuring gifts for younger children including stickers, an ITFC apron, a soft toy with the mascot Bluey, and a Bluey-themed backpack.

Ipswich Town Season Ticket

The price of an ITFC Season Ticket rose 8% before the 2023-24 season, but was still pretty cheap compared to other Premier League clubs. An adult, general admission Ipswich Town Season Ticket costs between £381, in the Lower Tier of the shortside stands, and £595 on the halfway line on the longside stands.

It pays to combine an Ipswich Town Season Ticket with a membership, as ITFC Season Ticket holders aren’t automatically entitled to certain perks.

You’ll need to invest in a membership on top of your Ipswich Season Ticket if you want to:

  • Earn points on away matches to attend away matches
  • Purchase an additional home ticket before general sale
  • Re-list your ticket on the official ITFC resale platform

We’ll discuss away points and ticket sales windows a little later in this article.

Ipswich is a club that rewards long-term fans. It makes sense that the people who have followed the club throughout its time in the second and third tier should be first in line to enjoy Premier League football at Portman Road.

So in that spirit there are 21,000+ season ticket holders at Portman Road (capacity 29,673), which is more than two thirds of the stadium’s capacity. Subtract approximately 3,000 from the away allocation, and that doesn’t leave a lot of space for the thousands of Ipswich Town Members to get tickets.

For more detail about ITFC Season Tickets, check out our article about the Ipswich Town Season Ticket waiting list.

Ipswich Town Seat+ Season Ticket

If you fancy sitting in the posh, non-hospitality seats there are premium Ipswich Town season tickets. These are available for the Cobbold Stand (D Block), West Stand (Y Block), and Sir Alf Ramsey Stand (X Block). To check the locations, you can consult our guide to the Portman Road seating plan.

Costing between £681 and £903, these tickets come with all the benefits of a standard season ticket, along with an exclusive range of perks, including:

  • Padded seats
  • Premium views
  • Drinks vouchers
  • Bar access
  • Complimentary match programmes

Buying Tickets with an Ipswich Town Membership

As is the case across the Premier League, primary market Ipswich Town tickets go on sale around six weeks before a fixture. At this point Ipswich Super Blues Members without season tickets have a two-day priority window to purchase tickets.

Typically this opens on a Monday at 10 AM and lasts until Wednesday at 10AM, at which point ITFC Members who are also Ipswich Season Ticket holders get their chance to purchase additional tickets. Two days later, ITFC Season Ticket holders without membership have an opportunity to buy more tickets.

Finally, a week after the sales window opens, ITFC Tickets go on general sale.

As for the price, general admission Ipswich Town Tickets are among the cheapest in the Premier League. This is down to the club’s few years in League One, during which the price was frozen. Now they cost around £30 in the shortside lower tiers, and rise to just over £40 in the better seats in the longside stands. Of course, the ticket price is likely to climb depending on Ipswich Town’s progress in the Premier League.

Buying Away Tickets with an ITFC Membership

This is a completely different process to buying home tickets with an ITFC Membership. To get to the front of the queue of Ipswich away tickets, you of course need a Ipswich Super Blues Membership. But you also need to have accrued a certain number of Away Priority Points.

We mentioned at the top that ITFC Members are awarded Five Away Priority Points when they sign up or renew their membership.

As you might guess, you earn ITFC Away Priority Points by attending Ipswich’s away matches. You get one point per game, and the total rolls over from the previous season. So brand new ITFC Members have a serious disadvantage when it comes to buying Ipswich Town Away Tickets.

ITFC Away Ticket Sales Windows

To explain why, this is how Ipswich Town away tickets are usually sold to members:

Monday, 10 AM – Super Blues Members with more than 30 points

Tuesday, 10 AM – Super Blues Members with more than 25 points

Wednesday, 10 AM – Super Blues Members with more than 20 points

Thursday, 10 AM – Super Blues Members with more than 15 points

Friday, 10 AM – Super Blues Members with more than 5 points

Monday, 10 AM – ITFC Season Ticket Holders

Tuesday, 10 AM – General sale

As you can see, in this case being an Ipswich Town Member (with just 5 Ipswich Away Priority Points) gives you just a slender advantage over non-members when it comes to securing away tickets.

In practice, they are restricted to people who already attend Ipswich Town away matches regularly. To get your foot in the door and start accumulating points, you’ll need to be willing to travel to less popular away games.

What is the Ipswich Town Resale Platform?

At the end of the 2023-24 season when demand for Ipswich tickets went through the roof, the club launched a resale platform similar to the ticket exchanges that can be found across the Premier League. One of the aims is to reduce the number of empty seats at sold-out matches, while enabling attendance for fans who might be left out.

The resale platform made it possible for people who are both ITFC Season Ticket holders and Super Blues Members to re-list their seat at face value to other Ipswich Town Members.

The resale platform normally opens about three weeks before a fixture and is available until a few hours before kick-off.

Will an Ipswich Town Membership Guarantee Me a Ticket?

No, unfortunately not. As we mentioned above, an Ipswich Town Membership used to entitle younger fans to a ticket for one game a season with a parent/caregiver. That benefit was from a time when there was a lot less demand, and the club was down in League One.

How Many Tickets Can I Buy with an Ipswich Town Membership?

All priority sales are limited to one ticket per member.

Is there a Waiting List to Become an Ipswich Town Member?

No, you can purchase an Ipswich Membership at any point in the season.

Can I Stagger the Cost of my ITFC Membership?

No, as opposed to ITFC Season Tickets, the club does not offer a direct debit scheme with memberships.

Can the Cost of My Ipswich Town Membership Increase?

Yes, but only at the end of each season. It’s only natural that Ipswich’s sudden improvement since the 2020s has raised the price of everything from ticket prices to memberships will rise a little.

Ipswich Town Seasonal Hospitality Membership

For ITFC fans willing to pay more to support the Tractor Boys, the club has a choice of seasonal hospitality packages. These are ideal if you have money to burn, or if you represent a business wanting to treat employees or entertain clients.

Although Portman Road’s premium options may seem limited compared to other Premier League clubs, Ipswich have set new standards for hospitality during their time in the Championship and League One, winning multiple awards.

Before the 2023-24 season the club also applied for planning permission to increase their hospitality sections in the Magnus Group West Stand.

So this is what you get with a seasonal hospitality package with Ipswich Town:

  • Access to all of the Tractor Boys’ home league matches
  • VIP padded seating in the Executive Box or Sir Bobby Robson Suite
  • Appearances by ITFC legends
  • A two-course meal before kick-off
  • Exclusive access to the pre-match and halftime bars
  • Complimentary match programme

As there’s a finite amount, these seasonal packages sell out every season, although matchday packages are available. You can join the seasonal hospitality waiting list by registering your interest on the club site.

Which Former Ipswich Town Players Do Hospitality at Portman Road?

There’s a sizable group of former Tractor Boys who are still closely involved with the club, and appear on match-days at Portman Road’s hospitality lounges. These players will do the rounds, meeting and greeting and offering insights about the match.

The lineup of former players making hospitality appearances changes by the week, but below is a list of former players who have taken part in recent seasons.

John Wark

The anchor for ITFC hospitality is one of the four inaugural members of the Ipswich Town Hall of Fame. John Wark was a tireless presence in the midfield engine room during the club’s most successful era. He was easily recognised by his moustache, and was part of the team that won the FA Cup in 1977-78, as well as the UEFA Cup in 1980-81. Between 1974 and 1997 he made a total of 679 appearances for the club in three separate spells. These were broken up by a period in Liverpool’s dominant side of the mid-1980s.

Bryan Hamilton

Another key figure in Ipswich’s glory days, Hamilton made 150+ top-flight appearances for Ipswich Town between 1971 and 1976. The Ulsterman is remembered for his eye for goal, scoring 43 league goals in his five seasons at Portman Road.

George Burley

A giant in Ipswich’s history, Burley was a tough full-back who made almost 400 appearances for the Tractor Boys. He was a cornerstone of Sir Bobby Robson’s thrilling team of the late 1970s and early 80s. He won the FA Cup in 1987, took part in the successful UEFA Cup campaign in 1980-81, and almost won the league that same season. Burley later spent eight season as Ipswich Town manager, helping the club back to the Premier League in 2000.

Matt Holland

Part of Ipswich Town’s revival at the turn of the millennium, Matt Holland was a tidy goalscoring midfielder. A Republic of Ireland international at the World Cup in 2002, Holland was extremely reliable, missing just one league game in six years. He was crucial to the promotion push in 2000 and was ever-present in the club’s two seasons in the Premier League.

Chris Kiwomya

A player associated with the Tractor Boys’ brief return to the the top-flight in the early 1990s, Kiwomya played over 250 games for Ipswich between 1987 and 1995. In that time he scored more than 60 goals, and was top scorer during their 1991-92 promotion season.

Terry Butcher

Another key part of Sir Bobby Robson’s teams, the stalwart England defender has appeared at several club events in recent years. Butcher won the cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1980-81, and was twice named ITFC Player of the Year, in 1985 and 1986.

Can I Get Access to Ipswich Town Hospitality Tickets with a Membership?

The answer is not exactly. While an Ipswich Town Membership does not entitle you to the club’s coveted hospitality tickets, you do get a discount of 10% on matchday hospitality.

Buying Ipswich Town Tickets without a Membership

Ipswich Town tickets go on general sale a week after the sales windows for ITFC Members and ITFC Season Ticket holders. When attendances were way down during the club’s long slump in the Championship and then League One, very few matches sold out.

Things have changed a lot since Ipswich’s current owners took over in 2021. The average attendances for the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 seasons were the highest since Portman Road was expanded in the early 2000s. ITFC fans have a huge huge appetite for football, and you can expect capacity crowds game to game.

This is all bad news for fans waiting for Ipswich Town tickets to go on general sale. Not many games reached general sale when the club was in the Championship, so you have little hope now the club has made its way back to the top table.

Buying Ipswich Town Tickets on the Secondary Market

Fortunately, there’s always availability on the secondary market. Ticket Compare compiles tickets from a variety of trusted, independently reviewed resale sites to help you find Ipswich tickets for any game. We also list hospitality tickets from official club partners.

An Ipswich Town Membership doesn’t make a lot of sense if you can’t get to that many games each season. If you’re pinpointing an isolated fixture, your best bet is to browse Ticket Compare to make sure you won’t miss out. For more info about navigating the secondary market, check out our article about buying tickets from resale sites.
