How Long is the Waiting List for an Ipswich Town Season Ticket?

It looks like things will never be the same again at Ipswich Town. In 2023-24 the Tractor Boys achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time in a quarter of a century.

After a long period in the second and third tiers, the club is on the right track under new owners who took over in 2021. Ipswich Town’s strong position is reflected in the sudden, insane demand for season tickets, which sell out every season. Really, the numbers coming out of Portman Road are astonishing.

In spring 2024, to cope with the oversubscription for ITFC Season Tickets, the club announced that it would launch a waiting list for the 2025-26 season. We’ll try and work out exactly how long you might have to wait for an Ipswich Town Season Ticket.

So Just How Long is the Ipswich Town Season Ticket Waiting List?

Well, since it has only just been introduced, any answer is going to be an estimate, and depends on things like on-field performance, pricing, and the cap on the number of season tickets. However, you can also draw a few conclusions, even at this early stage.

With 20,000 renewals in spring 2024 (around 95%), we can assume that there were plenty of fans who were turned away when they applied for an Ipswich Season Ticket at the end of the successful promotion campaign.

If you missed out this time, there’s no guarantee you’ll be successful for 2025-26. So the wait may be two years or more, which is amazing when you look back at the dwindling attendances in the late 2010s. This is a club with an average crowd of 26,184 in League One in 2022-23. It would take something truly dramatic for that kind of interest to wane.

How Many Ipswich Town Season Ticket Holders Are there?

Ipswich Town is one of those clubs that fills its stadium with long-term fans who have season tickets. In fact, ITFC Season Ticket holders make up more than two thirds of the crowd at Portman Road, with over 21,000 holders at the last count.

As we mentioned, over 20,000 existing Ipswich Season Ticket holders renewed in spring 2024, even before Ipswich’s return to the Premier League was confirmed.

This tally climbed from just under 18,000 holders in the 2022-23 season, to give you an idea of the spectacular rise of this club. Even more amazing is that that figure was confirmed before the club had secured promotion from League One to the Championship. It tells you that Ipswich Town fans have bought into the new regime, in every sense.

With so many fans committing for an entire season, it also gives a sense of the potential size of the Ipswich Town fanbase, and tells you why the club felt the need to introduce a waiting list.

How Much Does an Ipswich Town Season Ticket Cost?

An Ipswich Season Ticket is one of the cheapest in the Premier League, which is understandable considering that the club escaped the third tier in 2022-23. There was an 8% price rise for 2024-25, more dramatic when you consider that it’s for 19 matches instead of 23 in the Championship. We’ll go stand by stand:

West Stand - £478 - £595

Sir Bobby Robson North Stand - £381 - £501

Cobbold Stand - £381 - £595

Sir Alf Ramsey South Stand - £381 - £501

There are also reduced prices for ITFC Season Tickets in the Family Area, located in the West Stand and costing between £372 and £464. For more info about the location, check out our guide to the Portman Road seating plan

Ipswich Seat+ Season Tickets

The West Stand, Cobbold Stand and Sir Alf Ramsey stands each have a block with premium non-hospitality seating. These are general admission season tickets, but with a number of additional benefits like superior views, padded seating, a free match programme and drinks vouchers. ITFC Seat+ Season Tickets cost between £681 and £903. We go into more detail about these various packages in our guide to Ipswich Town Membership

Ipswich Town Half-Season Tickets

In previous seasons, when the demand was a little lower, the club had enough availability to sell half-season tickets in November, valid for 11 matches.

That kind of thing is unheard of for Premier League clubs, so won’t be seen at Portman Road for the foreseeable future.

Could the Ipswich Town Season Ticket Waiting List Change?

If you’re wondering if the demand will collapse because of relegation, well it doesn’t seem likely. While Ipswich could experience a difficult time in the top tier, it’s worth remembering that they sold out season tickets in 2022-23, before anyone knew if they would get out of League One.

Our guess is that it’s only going to get longer whatever happens. And if they consolidate their position in the Premier League, as seems possible, then the waiting list will grow.

Another factor is that there are constant rumours about the stadium being enlarged, especially the West Stand and Cobbold Stand. The last time Ipswich Town were in the Premier League they reinvested a lot of the additional revenue into their stadium, increasing the capacity by 8,000.

Can I Spread the Cost of My Ipswich Town Season Ticket?

Yes, the club has earned a lot of praise for its Direct Debit scheme. This allows Ipswich Season Ticket holders to spread the cost of their ticket over 12 months without paying any interest.

When Are Ipswich Town Season Tickets Renewed?

April is the month when ITFC Season Ticket holders are invited to renew their ticket. There’s usually a three-week window, offering a discount to people renewing their ticket over people buying one for the first time.

Demand was so high before the 2024-25 season that season tickets sold out just a couple of days after the end of the renewal window at the end of April.

So if you’re hoping to buy an Ipswich Season Ticket in the future, mark this month in your calendar and be prepared to make a commitment.

Buying Ipswich Town Tickets on the Secondary Market

With Portman Road dominated by ITFC Season Ticket holders, and with only a small allocation available for Ipswich Members, it makes sense to consider the resale market for Ipswich Town Tickets

Not everyone can make a season-long commitment to their club, while the Premier League has millions of overseas fans who can only attend a match a season, at most. For many people, purchasing a one-off ticket is the way to go.

Browsing resale sites may cause a bit of anxiety, so Ticket Compare removes the hassle and doubt, by comparing tickets from a range of trusted secondary marketplaces. We independently review the sites on our platform, giving you access to 100% authentic tickets at the best prices available.
