How Do West Ham United Priority Points Work?

Priority Points are the lifeblood that allows West Ham United fans to attend away matches. The Claret & Blue Army is famous for its turnout, filling their allocation for every away day.

Maybe you’re a West Ham Season Ticket holder scratching your head, trying to work out how to accumulate enough Priority Points to be a regular at away games.

Or perhaps you’re just starting your adventure as a Hammers supporter and want to know how ticketing at West Ham works.

Whatever your reason, we’ll cover every detail in our guide to West Ham Priority Points.

No Priority Points Needed!

What Are West Ham Priority Points?

Simply put, West Ham Priority Points dictate the order of sale for away tickets, and can only be collected by Season Ticket holders.

  • Where Priority Points go: Added to the Client Reference Number (CRN) used at purchase.
  • Per-match Priority Point limit: Max 1 Priority Point per match per CRN, even if multiple tickets are bought on that CRN.

For 2025/26, your starting balance is the points that you accumulated in 2024/25. Anything collected before 2024/25 (so 2023/24) doesn’t carry over. Your total this season is 2024/25 carryover along with any points you earn in 2025/26.

How Do You Get Priority Points for West Ham?

You earn Priority Points by attending the following matches as a West Ham season ticket holder:

  • Away Matches
  • Home Cup Matches
  • Away Cup Matches

For every match you attend you earn: 1 Priority Point.

If you renewed your Season Ticket before March 21, 2025 you also earned an additional 3 Priority Points.

This is your own personal total and cannot be transferred to other West Ham United season ticket holders or fans with a West Ham membership (Claret).

How Many Priority Points Do You Need to Buy West Ham Away Tickets?

The number of Priority Points you need to buy tickets for a West Ham away match rises and falls from match to match.

  • The required total depends on the following factors:
  • The size of the away ticket allocation
  • The popularity of the opposition team
  • West Ham’s on-pitch form
  • The point in the season in which a match takes place

On that last point, it’s natural that the number of Priority Points required will steadily increase as fans build their Priority Points totals as the season progresses.

Next, we’ll look at how many Priority Points were needed for an away ticket across the 2024/25 season. This will give you a clear indication of the points required for future seasons.

2024/25 West Ham Priority Points Analysis

The Big Driver is Allocation Size

  • Smaller allocations mean higher cut-offs.
  • As a simple rule of thumb, every extra 1,000 away tickets lowered the threshold by around 10 to 12 points. So 3,200 seats required 19 points mid-season, while 1,300 seats required between 36 and 41 points depending on matchday.
  • That’s why Bournemouth (with an allocation of just 1,307 seats) topped out at 40 points, while larger allocations around 3,000 usually had a threshold in the high teens or low 20s.

The Required Total Rises as the Season Progresses

  • Naturally, there is a gradual rise across the season—this is roughly +0.5 points per matchday, totally independent of allocation.
  • Let’s interpret that: Even if two games had the same allocation, a Matchday 18 fixture would typically require around 9 points more than a Matchday 1 fixture.
  • This is all common sense: As supporters attend more games, accumulated totals will rise, so of course thresholds drift upward.

Kick-off Time and Day of Week

  • Weekend matches tend to require more Priority Points than midweek (evening) games. In this set, midweek evenings clustered in the high-teens, while the classic Saturday 15:00s were more often low-to-mid-20s.
  • The effect of kick-off time is a little weaker than allocation, but it’s natural that midweek evenings will have lower demand and a lower Priority Points threshold..

Opponents & Outliers

  • Some Priority Points totals rose above what allocation and the matchday alone would predict (like, Arsenal and Ipswich on the final day), this is all due to demand factors like (rivalry, novelty, form and travel ease).
  • Others fall below expectations (like the matches against United, City) despite big allocations and attractive opponents. Travel, timing and fixture congestion could all play a part.

Cups Have Much More Availability

  • The EFL Cup and FA Cup tie with very large allocations (around 5,674) fell to 0 and 2 points respectively.

After the Priority Points-basis sale, there’s another opportunity for other season ticket holders to get tickets, which we’ll cover next.

The 10% Ballot for West Ham Away Tickets

After 90% of an away allocation has been sold to WHUFC season ticket holders according to their Priority Points total, the remaining 10% (so rarely more than 300 seats) will be made available in a ballot draw for all other season ticket holders.

This ballot begins the day after 90% of tickets are sold. You have at least 24 hours to enter, and then a lucky minority will get the chance to buy a ticket from the remaining allocation.

This is a fallback way to get hold of tickets for away games, even if the odds of success are quite low.
