Euro 2024 Tickets: How to Score Seats for the Knockouts

We’re into the second week of Euro 2024, and the tournament is taking shape. At this point, every match counts. So if you’re ready to see your team make history, we’ll tell you all you need to know about buying tickets for Euro 2024.

The Euro 2024 Ticket Ballot Explained

In this article we’re going to explain the various steps of the ticket sales process for Euro 2024. It may be that you’re interested in how these things work for future tournaments, or that you’re reading this article before the end of Euro 2024 and still want to get tickets for the latter stages.

Going by the England Football Association’s approach, it’s almost impossible to buy Euro 2024 tickets from the organisers. That is unless you’ve attended a certain number of England matches, home and away, in the last few seasons. We’ll go into this process in more detail, and will discuss any other ways for purchasing Euro 2024 tickets, such as on the secondary market.

So How Are Euro 2024 Tickets Allocated?

There were two initial sales phases for Euro 2024 tickets, first in October and then in December 2023.

First Phase of Euro 2024 Ticket Sales - October 2023

Before the final tournament draw had even been made—so before anyone even knew the fixtures—fans were invited to apply to take part in the first phase of Euro 2024 ticket sales. This took place between 3 October and 26 October 2023, and for the sake of fairness was a ballot or lottery, rather than a first come, first served process.

During this period it is estimated that 20 million people applied directly to UEFA for the opportunity to secure 1,270,000 tickets. This is out of a total 2,160,000 that would be made available to the public for the entire tournament.

Of the tickets sold in the First Phase in October 2023, 270,000 were priced at €30 and 1 million cost €60.

Anyone who applied for the lottery but was unsuccessful was entered into the new Fans First programme. With this system they would be given priority access to any new tickets going on sale, depending on where these fans ranked in the initial lottery.

Second Phase of Euro 2024 Ticket Sales - December 2023

The final tournament draw took place on 2 December 2023, and this was the first time fans would be aware when and where their team would be playing.

The sales phase that followed the draw was completely different to the first one. It involved allocating a certain number of Euro 2024 tickets to the respective national football associations.

For each group stage game, 10,000 was made available to each association to be sold to fans, no matter the capacity of the stadium.

Now, the sales process for this phase was completely different to the ballot that took place for the First Phase. At this point, everything was down to the discretion of the national associations.

So it makes sense for us to talk about the England process now.

What is the England Supporters Travel Club?

First it’s important to know how England fans qualified for tickets, so we need to talk about something called the England Supporters Travel Club.

This is like a club membership, but for an international team. Instead of buying a membership for a season, you subscribe to a two-year competition cycle, whether it’s for the European Championships or the World Cup. The cost of membership for the 2022-24 “road to Germany” cycle was £75 for adults. This came with a range of benefits, including:

  • Exclusive access to home and away tickets
  • Exclusive access to tournament tickets
  • A membership pack with England-themed swag
  • Opportunities to win ticket upgrades at Wembley
  • The chance to attend open training sessions and meet players
  • Opportunities for kids to become mascots
  • 10% discount at the official England store

The £75 membership fee also includes administration costs related to the ticketing purchase process.

What are England Supporters Travel Club Caps?

If you’re a member of a domestic team, you may be aware of loyalty points. Members earn these points by attending matches, and in England’s case they are known as Caps. Earn more of these caps and you stand a much higher chance of being able to buy tickets for tournament matches.

Where things become difficult for newcomers to the England scene is that Caps roll over from cycle to cycle. So fans who were following England through World Cup qualification, various friendlies, and Nations League fixtures are in the driving seat.

How Were England Tickets Allocated in the Second Euro 2024 Sales Phase?

England Supporters Travel Club members were given priority. Starting a couple of months before the Second Phase tickets went on sale, these members were invited to register their interest seats.

When the allocation was released, the breakdown for members was as follows:

  • 70% of the allocation was to fans with the most caps, prioritised in order of their total
  • 20% of tickets were sold in a ballot to anyone unsuccessful in the 70% phase, limited to fans who had attended four home games and two away games over the previous two qualification cycles
  • 10% of the allocation was sold in a ballot to all remaining members who had missed out in the 70% and 20% phases

Away tickets and overseas tournament tickets have been made available to the England Supporters Travel Club in this fashion for several seasons.

Additional Euro 2024 Ticket Sales

Because of the random nature of UEFA’s 2023 lottery, many fans were left with tickets to matches they didn’t want to attend, but which they had been obliged to purchase.

So UEFA made it possible for these fans to resell their tickets on an official resale platform that opened several times up to 2 May.

In this time some 100,000 unwanted UEFA 2024 tickets were resold on a first come, first served basis.

Priority was given to fans who had been unsuccessful in the First Phase several months before. Needless to say, these windows were extremely brief, and many people expressed their frustration when the system crashed in May.

Buying Euro 2024 Knockout Tickets

As with the Second Phase sales, additional ticket allocations for the Euro 2024 knockouts (6,000 per team) are released to the specific federations and sold game-by-game.

England announced in late 2023 that should the team progress to the Round of 16 there would be another ballot, continuing for all subsequent matches.

So whatever happens, long-term England fans will always be in pole position for tickets to Euro 2024 matches.

How Much Are Euro 2024 Tickets?

This is the breakdown for Euro 2024 ticket prices. All prices are in Euros (€).

Generally speaking, the categories are divided as follows:

  • Category 3 - Rear of shortside stands
  • Category 2 - Stadium corners
  • Category 1 - Longside stands
  • Prime Seats - Halfway line on longside stands

Keep in mind that these Euro 2024 ticket prices are face value for primary market tickets. We’ll explain in more detail if you’re wondering what does face value mean.

If you buy resale tickets on the secondary market you can expect to pay more, depending on supply and demand. For more information, check out our article about buying resale tickets.

Euro 2024 Resale Ticket Prices

Naturally, secondary market prices will be different to face value. At the time of writing, one week into the tournament, these were the cheapest secondary market tickets for the Berlin Quarter-Final on 29 June:

  • Fans First - €584
  • Category 3 - €384
  • Category 2 - €384
  • Category 1 - €412
  • Prime - €1123

As you can see, limited availability increases these prices, and they rise the closer you get to the fixture. If you’re pondering getting Euro 2024 tickets, it’s a good idea to be decisive.

Euro 2024 Hospitality Tickets

If money is no object and you absolutely have to see your team in action, official Euro 2024 hospitality tickets naturally sell out much slower than general admission tickets. At this tournament there was a flat rate, depending on the stage.

  • Group Stages: €1,250
  • Round of 16: €1,650
  • Quarter-Finals: €1,950
  • Semi-Finals: €2,900
  • Final: €5,900

Buying Euro 2024 Tickets from Resale Sites

As you can see, for most people the opportunity to buy primary market tickets is firmly in the past. To get them you either needed to be pretty lucky or highly dedicated to your national team.

Short of going back in time and attending national team games, the only reliable way to get general admission tickets for Euro 2024 is on the secondary market, or via official hospitality resellers if you don’t mind spending more.

Instead of having to scour the internet and taking your chances with touts, Ticket Compare curates a lineup of independently reviewed resale sites. We’ll also find the cheapest England tickets, saving you a bit of legwork.
