What is a Chelsea Membership?
A Chelsea membership is an annual subscription to the club. Frankly, if you want to buy official general admission tickets directly from Chelsea then a membership is absolutely essential. Chelsea memberships come in three main varieties for adults:
- CFC Blue ($60 per season): The basic membership for Chelsea fans, gives access to official CFC tickets in Phase 2 (from 2:00 pm on the day of sale). CFC Blue membership also comes with a lineup of other ticketing benefits including access to the Ticket Exchange, and the ability to receive forwarded tickets.
- True Blue ($87 per season): All the benefits of CFC Blue, but with a crucial priority at Phase 1 (from 10:00 am on the day of sale). This window is vital as tickets will sell out in minutes for almost every home Chelsea match.
- Ticket Forwarding Membership ($20 per season): No benefits beyond the ability to receive tickets that have been forwarded by Chelsea season ticket holders.
We go into much more detail in our article on Chelsea memberships.
In the meantime we’ll illustrate how official Chelsea tickets are sold for home matches at the Bridge.
What Time Do Chelsea Tickets Go on Sale?
Official Chelsea tickets go on sale at 10:00 am, usually on a Thursday or Monday 42 days (on average) before a match. It pays to be logged in and to join the queue just before that time (your position will be randomly allocated before 10:00 am).
For mid-week matches the on-sale date may be switched to a Thursday. This is how sales for tickets at Stamford Bridge usually roll out:
- Phase 1 - 10:00 am: True Blue Members can buy tickets (one per person)
- Phase 2 - 2:00 pm: CFC Blue Members and True Blue Members can buy tickets (one per person)
- Westview: From the moment Phase 1 opens, it will also be possible for members and season ticket holders to purchase premium Westview tickets (up to four per person). These are essentially general admission seats, but with a few extras, including superior views in West Stand Upper, padded seats and access to an exclusive concourse.
Note that Westview is similar to hospitality, but is sold like a general admission ticket.
Loyalty Points: Key for Buying Official Chelsea Tickets for Big Matches
When demand for a match is high, like for a London derby vs Arsenal or a heavyweight clash against Manchester United, official Chelsea tickets may be sold on a Loyalty Points basis.
We cover this topic in detail in our guide to Chelsea Loyalty Points.
But at a glance it means that you will need a history of buying Chelsea tickets in the current season (or previous season up to September) to qualify for the right to buy these tickets.
The Chelsea Ticket Exchange: The Fallback Way to Buy Official Chelsea Tickets
With only around 4,000 official general admission tickets on sale for a Premier League match, official Chelsea tickets sell out in a flash. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be the end of the road.
You can try your luck on the Chelsea Ticket Exchange, where season ticket holders relist seats for matches they don’t want to attend. You need to be a member or season ticket holder to buy tickets on the Ticket Exchange.
The Chelsea Ticket Exchange usually opens on the day that tickets go on sale, and will remain open until 3:00 pm on the last working day before the match takes place.
We cover this topic in more depth in our comprehensive guide to the Chelsea Ticket Exchange.
If you know a current Chelsea season ticket holder then they can pass their ticket on to you on a match-by-match basis with Ticket Forwarding. We’ll explain how next.
Ticket Forwarding: A Way to Receive Official Chelsea Tickets
If a Chelsea season ticket holder can’t get to a game they can share their ticket with another Chelsea fan, as long as the recipient has an active Chelsea membership (CFC Blue, True Blue or Ticket Forwarding).
- The person receiving a Chelsea FC ticket using Ticket Forwarding must also be part of the holder’s existing Network.
- You can forward and receive tickets via the club’s eticketing site or the official Chelsea app.
- Once accepted, as if you are completing a purchase, a forwarded ticket will be available to scan at the Stamford Bridge turnstiles via the Chelsea app.
- You can receive a forwarded Chelsea ticket until 12:00 pm on the day of the match (for a Saturday 3:00 pm kick-off).
Now, if all other methods of buying official Chelsea FC tickets fail, hospitality will normally be an option.
Matchday Hospitality: Official Chelsea Tickets with Extra Benefits
A large proportion of Stamford Bridge’s 40,341 capacity is dedicated to hospitality. And a big chunk of that is for matchday (match-by-match) hospitality seats, all managed by the Club Chelsea brand.
So matchday hospitality is a fine route to choose if you want to buy official Chelsea tickets with less competition.
Why is there less competition for hospitality? Well, the prices are much higher than general admission tickets. A cheaper package like the casual Captains’ Bar, will normally start around $269 per person for a typical Premier League game.
Those prices climb steeply with high-end options like the Dugout Club (with seats right behind the dugouts, among a raft of other perks) topping $2,686 or more.
Let’s look at the many things that make matchday hospitality at Chelsea worthwhile.
Benefits of Buying Chelsea Matchday Hospitality Tickets
- An array of package-dependent always involving padded seats, great views, access to an exclusive lounge at Stamford Bridge and longer opening hours than with regular tickets
- Looser limits on the number of tickets you buy per purchase (up to ten in some cases)
- No time limit on purchases, with packages available from preseason and often still on sale days before a big fixtures
- Sales are totally independent of the sales process for general admission tickets, with no membership required (apart from Westview seats)

Match Breaks: A Convenient Way to Buy Official Chelsea Tickets from Abroad
You don’t always have to go through the Club Chelsea website to buy hospitality packages at Chelsea.
The club works with a number of third-party companies, mainly travel agents, selling official match tickets for Stamford Bridge as part of a travel package, also known as a match break.
These official Chelsea FC tickets will usually feature one of the more affordable hospitality experiences, often Westview tickets, as well as one or two nights of accommodation or a voucher for transport.
Ideal for overseas fans, a match break package takes all of the hassle of booking a trip and snagging tickets at the same time.
Overseas fans could also look into sourcing tickets from their local Chelsea Supporters Club, as we’ll show in the next section.
Official Chelsea Supporters Clubs: Another Way to Buy Official Chelsea Tickets
Chelsea has a huge network of Official Supporters Clubs, with over 500 individual clubs in more than 100 countries around the world. One of the many benefits of being a member is access to tickets:
- To buy through a Chelsea Supporters Club, you first have to join your nearest official club (you must live locally to it).
- You also have to hold either a Chelsea membership or a season ticket in your own name. So, you will still need to go through the usual channels in that regard.
- It’s vital to remember you can only request tickets via the club that is geographically closest or otherwise approved as most appropriate.
- On top of that, a club may have particular rules about who is eligible to receive tickets, and it may come down to factors like seniority.
Official Supporters Clubs: Chelsea Ticket Application Process
For home matches, Official Supporters Clubs typically get a priority window and can apply for up to one ticket per registered member, usually about 50 days before the match.
If demand exceeds supply, allocations are shared proportionally among supporters clubs.
For the biggest fixtures, Chelsea may sell on a Loyalty Points basis. In those cases, only members or Season Ticket Holders who meet the published points minimum can apply. Also, the allocation available to a Supporters Club may be reduced.
As a rule of thumb, Loyalty Points affect only the highest-demand matches. Most other fixtures follow a standard process.
