Premier League football club Liverpool FC have a rich history having won 19 league titles, 6 European Cups, 8 FA Cups, 9 League Cups and 16 Community Shields. Supporting a club as successful as this one can often mean that it is difficult to buy matchday tickets and, in particular, season tickets.
The waiting list for season tickets varies greatly by club, and is based on several factors including the size of each team’s stadium, the popularity of the club, the number of current season ticket holders and the current performance of a team. The reality is that some clubs are now charging a high price to buy season tickets, in some cases up to £3,000, which is pricing out some fans.
In this article, we look at how long the waiting list is for a Liverpool season ticket. We explore how you can potentially purchase one, how long you might be expected to wait, the cost of a season ticket and the benefits of being a proud owner of one. Liverpool Season Ticket Waiting List
There has been an incredibly long Liverpool season ticket waiting list in place for over two decades, with reports claiming that loyal fans have waited 27 years before being able to buy one.
The most recent expansion of Anfield’s capacity, an extension of the Anfield Road End stand, meant that 1,000 fans on the waiting list were able to buy a season ticket ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season. This number would’ve barely scratched the surface of the total number of fans on the list, though, and this is a number that hasn’t been disclosed by the club.
How Do I Purchase a Liverpool Season Ticket?
Although being able to purchase a Liverpool season ticket can take an incredibly long time, the actual process of purchasing one is relatively straightforward. You simply need to join Liverpool’s season ticket waiting list when it is open. From here you’ll have to wait until you are next in the queue to buy a season ticket.
The bad news is that if you’re not currently on the waiting list, it’s currently closed to new fans, and there is no official figure of the number of fans currently waiting. This is typical of most Premier League football teams, though, with clubs rewarding the most loyal fans who have been waiting the longest.
Essentially, your chances of being able to purchase a Liverpool season ticket rest on the number of new season tickets made available by the club and the number of fans waiting on the list.
Our best advice is to keep checking the official Liverpool Season Ticket FAQ’s page to see when the Liverpool season ticket waiting list reopens and add your name to it as soon as possible. That way, you’ll have the best chances of reducing the amount of time you’ll have to wait before being able to buy a season ticket.
How Much Will a Liverpool Season Ticket Cost?
For an adult, a Liverpool season ticket will cost you anywhere between £699 and £886 for the 2023/24 Premier League season.
This puts Liverpool around mid-table when comparing the price of the most expensive season tickets. Out of the “top 6 clubs” Liverpool offer season tickets at a cheaper price than Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal but are more expensive than Manchester United and Manchester City.
Although the cheapest option for an adult comes in at £699, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be paying this price, as it’ll depend on what season tickets become available in which stand of Anfield stadium.
Benefits of Owning a Liverpool Season Ticket
So you’ve waited several years, and you’ve finally received the email to say you're next in the queue to buy a Liverpool season ticket, we imagine you’re probably wondering what kind of benefits you’ll receive from owning one. The main benefits are having tickets for all Liverpool home matches and being part of the auto cup scheme.
Tickets for All Home Matches
The most obvious benefit of owning a Liverpool season ticket is being able to watch your beloved reds play all 19 Premier League home fixtures. You’ll have the comfort of knowing that your tickets are guaranteed, meaning you won’t have to endure the stress of queuing online to try and buy one for each home matchday.
Auto Cup Scheme
The other main benefit of being a Liverpool season ticket holder is being able to access their ‘Auto Cup Scheme’. This is an offering rolled out by many Premier League sides and entitles season ticket holders to have higher priority for tickets in cup competitions.
This is a demonstration of the club’s appreciation for their most loyal supporters. What’s great for Liverpool fans is that because they’re a pretty good footballing side, they tend to do relatively well in domestic and European cup competitions, meaning there are many opportunities for season ticket holders to acquire tickets across a season.
As their history proves, Liverpool have had great success in the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League over the years, and this isn’t expected to change in the near future. Season ticket holders should certainly be looking forward to some memorable away days in cup competitions.
Anfield Road End Expansion
As explained earlier, the chances of securing a Liverpool season ticket rest on the number of available seats at Anfield, and ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Anfield is currently undergoing an expansion.
Liverpool has rolled out work throughout the 2023 summer break in order to add 7,000 more seats to its famous ‘Anfield Road End’ stand, taking its capacity to 15,967. This will take the overall capacity of Anfield to 61,000 making it one of the largest Premier League stadiums in England behind Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United:
Rank | Club | Stadium | Capacity |
1 | Manchester United | Old Trafford | 74,310 |
2 | Tottenham Hotspur | Tottenham Hotspur Stadium | 62,850 |
3 | West Ham United | London Stadium | 62,500 |
4 | Liverpool | Anfield | 61,000 |
By expanding their capacity, Liverpool were able to free up 1000 new season tickets for the 2023/24 season. Furthermore, the club have commented saying that “The changes will add 7,000 additional seats, made up of around 5,200 general admission seats and around 1,800 seats with sports bar lounge / hospitality facilities.”
Lifelong Liverpool supporter Kev Pogorzelski took to social media to celebrate his 27-year wait for a season ticket, after being on the waiting list since 1996. Other fans on the waiting list will be hoping for a similar fate, or for more stadium expansions to take place in the near future.
