A Premier League football ground to be proud of, Southampton FC’s St Mary’s Stadium holds 32,384 fans.

Replacing Saints’ old ground, The Dell in 2001, St Mary’s is a single-tier bowl with invisible breaks between the stands. Despite the joined-up layout, there are important differences from one stand to another.

As a modern ground, St. Mary’s Stadium has no restricted views, and the club has put a lot of effort into improving the matchday experience with fan zones and a new home-only end in the Northam Stand.

Since 2023/24 the St. Mary’s Stadium layout has been shaken up a little, and we’ll talk you through all of the changes, whether you’re here for Premier League, FA Cup or EFL Cup matches.

What Are the Stands in St Mary’s Stadium?

The four stands at St Mary’s Stadium are the Kingsland Stand, Northam Stand, Itchen Stand, and Chapel Stand. Read on and we’ll cover each one in detail.

Kingsland Stand at St Mary’s Stadium

Capacity: 10,000+

Rows: About 40

The western longside stand at St Mary’s Stadium is a go-to for clean views of the pitch, without the trappings of hospitality. To back this up, The Kingsland Stand is where the main television camera position is located.

From Block 29 to 33 the sightlines are excellent, bolstered by premium padded seating right on the halfway line in Block 31. From here you can see both goals, and right across the pitch to the dugouts and players’ tunnel.

The Kingsland Stand also has the largest concourse at St Mary’s and a bigger range of general admission food & drink than any other stand.

As you head north, the atmosphere picks up in the Kingsland Stand. Blocks 34 to 37 are right by the raucous Saints fans in the Northam Stand, who we’ll talk about in the next section.

Then on the south end, the new away section begins at Block 28, merging with the Chapel Stand.

So if you pick a seat in Block 29 in the Kingsland Stand, you can expect some rowdy banter with the away fans to go with your clear perspectives of the St Mary’s pitch.

Finally, the Kingsland Fan Zone sits right outside the northern half of this stand (turnstile D), with a big screen and live entertainment.

Northam Stand at St Mary’s Stadium

Capacity: 4,500+

Rows: About 40

A vibrant and suitably rowdy place for passionate Saints fans to watch the match. In 2024 the Northam Stand was turned into one of the largest safe standing sections in the Premier League.

There are 7,000 safe standing seats here, from Blocks 38 to 48, rekindling the old days of the terraces at The Dell.

What you get is a haven for Southampton FC fans who want to spend the whole match on their feet and singing. For these fans, the views are less important, which is just as well because it’s difficult to see the whole pitch from behind the goal.

Pre-match you can get into the mood at the 700-capacity Northam Fan Zone, which has a big screen and a choice of places to grab a bite and drink.

Due to the constant standing and colourful language, consider another part of the ground if you’re getting Southampton FC tickets with children or older people.

Fortunately, there are plenty of family-friendly spots in the St Mary’s Stadium seating plan.

Itchen Stand at St Mary’s Stadium

Capacity: 9,000+

Rows: About 40

On the eastern longside, the poshest stand at St Mary’s Stadium is where all of Southampton FC’s hospitality lounges and seating are located.

This is the main stand at the ground, hosting the main reception, players’ tunnel, directors’ box, players’ tunnel, and dugouts.

Also on this side of the St Mary’s Stadium seating plan is the Southampton FC Stadium Store, set between the Itchen Stand and the Chapel Stand.

The designated hospitality area is high on the halfway line, above Blocks 5 to 9. If you don’t mind paying a little extra for the location and comforts of an exclusive lounge, this is the spot for you.

Naturally, upmarket seating doesn’t always give you a pulsating atmosphere for a football match. Many of the punters here are older and wealthier Southampton season ticket holders.

So if you want to mix a first-class view with a bit more life, try to get a seat at the north end of the Itchen Stand, from Blocks 2 to 5.

Chapel Stand at St Mary’s Stadium

Capacity: 5,000+

Rows: About 40

The southern shortside stand appeals to a mix of Southampton fans, with a bit of an edge due to the presence of away supporters.

Since the 2023/24 season Southampton FC’s 3,200-seat away allocation has been moved from the Northam Stand to the west side of the Chapel Stand, in Blocks 22 to 28, which overlaps with the Kingsland Stand as we mentioned above.

Again, if you’re the kind of fan who likes the cut and thrust of a Premier League football atmosphere, then head for Blocks 17 to 21 where you can swap songs with the away fans.

Those seats are directly behind the goal and provide a handy buffer for the Kids Zone, which takes up the eastern end of the Chapel Stand, from Block 13 to 16.

To complement this family-friendly part of the St Mary’s seating plan, there’s a Family Zone outside the Chapel Stand, with pre-game activities for kids, as well as food and drink vendors.

The Northam Stand: For the Best Atmosphere at St Mary’s

Hands-down the best place to be at Southampton FC if you want to feel the buzz of Saints fans at their craziest. When the Saints Go Marching In is something all Southampton fans have to experience once.

The Northam Stand is better than ever now that the club has removed the away fans, creating the kind of all-standing home end that has been seen in English football since the 1980s.

The Kingsland Stand: For the Best Views at Southampton FC

For general admission seats at St Mary’s with perfect sightlines, we recommend the blocks near the halfway line in the Kingsland Stand. Something else to take into account is that you won’t have the sun in your eyes in this part of the ground.

And as a sweetener, this side of the stadium features the Gasworks Bar & Kitchen, a great place to meet up pre-match.

The Chapel Stand: For Last-Minute Saints Action

Traditionally, Southampton play towards the Northam Stand in the first half. This means that if everything is on the line when the minutes tick down in the second half, Saints will be kicking towards the Chapel Stand.

Get a seat here in Blocks 17, 18 and 19 if you want a prime seat for the rollercoaster ride. Injury-time goals will never be the same again.

The Chapel Stand: Perfect For Kids Who Support Southampton FC

Many Premier League grounds have family sections, but few are as welcoming to younger supporters as St Mary’s Stadium.

At the Kids Zone there are four blocks (13-16) dedicated to families, where you can’t have more than two adults per one child. At the Family Zone outside there are plenty of pre-match activities for younger kids, and younger children will love getting to meet the mascots, Sammy and Mary Saint.

The Itchen Stand: For the Premium Southampton Experience

The executive stand at St Mary’s Stadium comes with a lineup of deluxe lounges, mostly positioned high in the stand, with a designated seating area on the halfway line. We’ll cover them briefly now:

Wheelchair user spaces: 193 available at the front of stands and on elevated decks, including a large one in the middle of the Chapel Stand. Free personal assistant seat next to the disabled fan.
Easy access and amenity seats: 202 seats set aside for ambulant disabled fans, offering features like aisle seats and extra legroom.
Visually impaired seating: 98 seats with radios and headsets for match commentary, available in Block 4.
Accessible toilets: 31 total, with a Changing Places facility on the first floor near disabled seating.
Audio commentary: Radios and headsets available for booking through Supporter Relations.
